Kutchi Girl

A very humble attempt to recreate an original "Kutchi Girl" by the great artist Jaya Rastogi Wheaton of Jaipur.  This beautifully painted kutch girl appeared on a Reader's Digest magazine years ago, maybe around 15 years or so and since then I had it with me to paint it some day when I learn to paint using proper technique.  After so many years of waiting I dared to attempt 3 years ago.  Still, I could not capture the beautiful subtle emotion on the little girls's face. 

Meadow

Oil on canvas 11" x 15" frame.  I have reproduced this painting from a greeting card which I have in my "to-be-painted" folder(not a computer folder). :).  

Narcissus

A bunch of narcissus or daffodils.  Acrylic on paper, trying to get a watercolor look, now framed and adorning my parents'  sitting room :).  I think it was made in 2011. 

Kathakali

Acrylic on canvas 12in.x17in decorated with acrylic kundan beads.  This is an original painting by me.

Acrylic on black card stock.  One of my favorite.

A painting using coffee powder.  yes I have cheated, i have used acrylic metallic for the black color.  this is made on canvas.

Serenity

My second work with oil colors. This is a reproduced artwork of renowed artist W. Alexander. I hope I have done justice to the work. I thouroughly enjoyed doing this. It took around 8 hours to finish the painting. I completed this with the help of my art teacher.

Purple tulip

This is my first attempt with oil colors. I had been attending painting classes for quite sometime now. The reason for enrolling into a art class was to find some time for myself but I learnt a lot here about painting, techniques and medium. Now, I feel like redoing my older paintings using the new techniques I have learnt.

The tulips are painted using one-stroke technique on a black paper with fabric paint.

Holiday Sketching

The short, which was supposed to be a winter plus Dussera holidays, has come to an end. I enjoyed it with my son. I am feeling really lonely today without having a little fight over what to do next, he always saying get something to eat, and me asking him to reduce the cartoon channel volume. We did a lot of outing too, only my son and me. We picked a packet of metallic color pencils and did some color pencil sketches with it, here they are.

Calm..

There are many reasons for the birth of this painting. First I was prompted by Deepa to paint, then I was gifted with a fabulous set of colors by my good friend who always encourages me to paint (she is my school mate), and other thing is I am taking part in the event Picture In Your Mind which is hosted by Ikshaa.

I started with a reference photograph. But it turned out to be something else. So I call it my original and picture from my mind. I apologize for disappearing for a long time. I always need a trigger to paint. The triggers can be a good set of paint, a good sketch paper, my mood, and some encouragement. And hence this painting and as always it is not what I expected. I could have done better.

CALM – I was at peace while I finished this piece.

A jar of goodies. This is done with crayons by my son Sid. As I gave him company for his art work, I did some color pencil sketching which was fun.

Homebound

This is a scene which I painted from my mind's eye. The inspiration is from a trip I made to Chitradurga recently. Chitradurga is beautiful place with lot of greenery around. I did not like the way I painted the tree. I did this around a month ago, and I took time to like it, that is why the delay to post it. And also I had been neglecting my blog off late and also I have not been going around the other blogs. I had been really busy with work. And of course the recent terror attack also has dampened the spirit a lot.

HorseWagon

This is a reproduced painting using color pencils.

DUSK

This is a usual scene you can see when you travel through Kerala by train. I love to see the silhouette during the late evenings and very early in the morning, the flicker of the tiny lamps shining in the hutments and in the boats which is already set out for their work for the day or returning home in the evenings. This gives me immense happiness. Simply weaving stories how it would be to be living in those beautiful places which is melted so close into the nature.

Don’t ask me what paper I have painted this and when.

White Hibiscus

This is a hibiscus from my grandmother's garden. The reference image is spotlessly white. I had to add some amount of pink, just to add depth and interest. I know it has lot of flaws, but I am leaving it at this point. I dare not do anything more on this white flower.

One winter morning

This is another scenery I stole from a greeting card. I have done this particular painting so many times. I just love this scene, may be because it suits my mood sometimes. Each time I have painted this, it has looked different.
